School’s out for spring break, and with two weeks off, it’s a great time for students to enjoy a little reading with some fun book ideas for younger kids!

We’re starting our Spring Reading series with several recommendations from École Laronde Elementary teacher-librarian Emily Montgomery for kindergarten to Grade 3-level readers – two are in English, et deux en français! Here’s what’s on her list for younger students this spring break:

Invisible Things by Andy J. Pizza & Sophie Miller

What do the giggles look like? What colour is an echo? If you’re not sure, don’t worry. This book has a pair of “Invisible Thing” glasses just for you! Come discover all the wonderful feelings, ideas and invisible things our world has to offer in this colourful and fun-filled book by the creative duo Andy J. Pizza and Sophie Miller.

This Moose Belongs to Me by Oliver Jeffers

What would you do with a moose? Wilfred owns a moose named Marcel and has lots of rules for him to follow. But Marcel doesn’t follow the rules and he might not even be Wilfred’s moose! A wonderfully clever book by author and artist Oliver Jeffers.

C’est qui le meilleur? by Idir Bechar

Hungry? The fruits in this book are full of personality and ready to show their talents! This charming story plays with words and sounds, and you’ll probably want a snack after reading it.

En Français: C’est un concours! Quel fruit va être choisis pour la collation du jour? Chaque candidat va essayer de te convaincre qu’il est le meilleur à manger. Après avoir lu ce livre tu auras faim!

Le pire livre du monde by Elise Gravel

Canadian author Elise Gravel has created the best worst book in the world! The three narrators will tell you why it’s so terrible and you’ll see all the errors yourself. But it will probably become your favourite book anyway.

There are lots of great books to choose from for primary readers this spring! Stay tuned for recommendations for intermediate and secondary students in our Spring Reading series!
